J.A.P. Model 2A

Work forces us to do a lot of things we don't necessarly want to do - and so I found myself living in a little one bedroom apartment with no garage, no workshop and not much room to do anything.

So how does one restore engines without a workshop, and without room?? Answer: Get a smaller engine!!.

Enter the J.A.P. Model 2A

This is a great little engine - with the emphasis on the "little". I can restore this on my dining room table.

J.A.P. made two different versions of the Model 2 - The Model 2A and the Model 2S. The 2A was the run of the mill everyday engine, while the 2S was the Heavy Duty version, with Bigger sump, and therefore better lubricating, and a better Govenor system.

This particular engine was manufactured in 1949 - just 4 years after the end of World War II, so it's got a bit of history to it. Unfortunately, I don't know much about what the history is....

Anyway - as of the date of writing this (2020) that makes this little fella 71 years old!! NOt a bad effort - I doubt much we build today will still be capable of running in 71 years time - one thing for sure is in 2091 - I won't be around to know.

One thing I did note - you may notice on the "before" photos, there is the faded remnant of a Swastika on the end of the fuel tank. Nothing official I don't think, it looks more like someone has drawn it on in texta pen. Maybe a child after the war, or maybe .... who knows how it got there. I'd like to know, but I guess I never will.
